Joyce Mphande, from Lilongwe, was crowned Miss Malawi 2009 edging out other 11 candidates from across the country.
The first runner-up was Karen Chimkwita, and the second runner-up was Yvonne Nkhata.
Miss Malawi will compete at Miss World 2009, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
