Mark Tancock from Swansea has been crowned Mister Wales 2009. The 24-year-old health advisor who now works in London took the title on Saturday evening in front of a 1,000 strong crowd at Cardiff International Arena.
In total 28 young Welsh men took part in the event, which (along with the Miss Wales competition), raised more than £120,000 for The Joshua Foundation – a charity for children with cancer. Mark took over the title from close friend Jonny Rees, who has been a mate for many years.
He said: “I’d seen Jonny enjoy the whole experience so I thought I’d give it a go. I never thought I’d win though and was really emotional when my name was called. The best thing about the whole experience has been meeting all the other boys who took part. We all got on great and have just had a real laugh.”
In second place was Jamie Tyler from Monmouthshire, while Luke Phillips from Caldicot came third. Special guest at the event was the reigning Miss World Ksenia Sukhinova who flew in from Russia to celebrate the fundraising achievements of the 2009 Miss and Mister Wales finalists.
On the same evening 241year old nurse Lucy Whitehouse from Barry won the Miss Wales 2009 title.
