Miss Ghana 2009



Twenty-year-old Mimi Areme, from the Volta Region, was crowned Miss Ghana 2009 at the Accra International Conference Centre. Mimi, an HND Marketing student of the Sunyani Polytechnic, will represent her country at Miss World 2010 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. 

Erica Maria Awini, a student of Psychology, Social Work and Religions at the University of Ghana emerged first runner-up and won for her prize a 32-inch Flat Screen Television, a set of furniture, prize money and three pieces of ATL fabric, while 23-year-old Ayishetu Dauda, a graduate of the University of Development Studies won Second runner-up. She also took home 29-inch Flat Screen Television, a portable fridge, a home theatre, prize money and a fabric from ATL.

Jennifer Victoria Koranteng


The elegant and articulate 22 year old graduate of the University of Ghana (Psychology Major), Jennifer Victoria Koranteng has been chosen as Miss Universe Ghana 2009 in a closed-selection in Accra.

Jennifer will represent Ghana at the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant to be held in the beautiful Paradise Island in the Bahamas, on August 23 2009.

After several rounds of tests on individual presentation, personality, physical fitness, composure and grace, as well general intelligence, Jennifer scored the most points beating Suzanna Naa Amuah Alberto Darko and Daphne Grace Allotey to 2nd runner-up and 1st runner-up positions respectively. The other contestants were Angela Effum and Matilda Hammond.

The excited winner says she would love to use her voice and new status to support the needy in society and to spell out the importance of education particularly for the girl-child. “I’m expecting to put Ghana on the map and to do very well. So people would know that Ghana is not only a land of gold and timber but also a land of great beauties”, comments Jennifer.

Mawuse Appea


Mawusi Appea, who also won Miss Beauty with Purpose on the occasion, becomes the nation's 51st beauty queen after independence.

The first runner-up, Huberta Naa Oyoe Quartey, a 22 year student of the University of Ghana Medical School also won Miss Most Beautiful Skin in the annual prestigious female competition, while 19 year old student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Shirley Nwangere was second runner-up of the competition. She also won Miss Talent and Miss Personality.

Miss Eloquence went to Esther Yayra Attipoe, a 21 year old student of the University of Ghana and Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo, a 19 years old student of the University of Ghana won Miss Fitness.
